Before School Program

Hours: 6:30-8:30am

Kid Adventures OST provides a welcoming and engaging start to the school day. Our before-school program offers a balance of structured routines and child-choice activities designed to help students transition smoothly into their school day feeling confident, connected, and ready to learn.

Through intentionally planned experiences, students have opportunities to develop social-emotional competencies, strengthen problem-solving skills, engage in creative expression, and build positive peer relationships. Activities are designed to support whole-child development while fostering independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. We encourage choice, relationship-building, social-emotional support, and a calm transition into the school day! 

Students may participate in a variety of activities, including:

• Creative Arts & Crafts – Open-ended projects that encourage creativity, self-expression, and fine motor skill development.

• STEM Exploration – Building challenges, puzzles, and hands-on learning experiences that promote critical thinking and problem-solving.

• Quiet Activities – Reading, drawing, coloring, and independent play opportunities for children who prefer a calm start to their morning.

• Games & Social Activities – Board games, cooperative activities, and group interactions that build communication, teamwork, and friendships.

• Physical Activity – Indoor or outdoor movement opportunities that help children release energy and prepare their minds and bodies for the school day.

• Mindfulness & Wellness Activities – Opportunities to practice self-regulation, positive social skills, and emotional awareness through age-appropriate activities and conversations.

Our staff create a safe, supportive environment where children can make choices, build relationships, and develop important life skills while beginning their day with a sense of belonging and success.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Drop-off and Pick-up Parking

Parking to drop off and pick up your student(s) is along the left side of the lane.  Please do not park along the right side of the lane behind the HDES parking spaces.  You may pull into any of the parking spaces in the main campus parking lot.

A Shared Commitment to Safety

We appreciate your partnership in keeping our school community safe. During drop-off and pick-up times, please drive carefully, watch for children who may be walking between vehicles, and follow all parking lot guidelines. A few extra moments of caution can make a big difference in ensuring every child arrives and departs safely.

Morning Drop-Off 

Kid Adventures – AM Arrival 

Kid Adventures is located at Door #16 of Hillsboro-Deering Elementary School. All families must use this designated entrance for all drop-off and pick-up procedures.

Arrival (Before School Program):
Parents/guardians must ring the doorbell at Door #16 for entry. A staff member will admit families into the building. Students must be escorted inside by a parent/guardian at all times and signed in at the Family Information/Sign-In Table. Students are not considered in Kid Adventures care until they are signed in by an authorized adult and received by staff.

After-School Program

Hours: 3:00-6pm

Enrichment Opportunities

At Kid Adventures OST, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. Our enrichment opportunities are intentionally designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, encourage creativity, and support the development of the whole child. Through hands-on experiences and engaging activities, students have the opportunity to explore new interests, strengthen important life skills, and build meaningful connections with their peers.

Our enrichment programming may include:

STEM Exploration

Students engage in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math activities that encourage critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. Examples may include engineering challenges, science experiments, coding activities, building projects, and nature-based investigations.

Creative Arts

Children express themselves through a variety of artistic experiences, including painting, drawing, sculpture, crafts, music, dramatic play, and collaborative art projects. These activities promote creativity, self-expression, and fine motor development.

Physical Activity & Wellness

Students participate in active games, outdoor recreation, team-building activities, and movement-based experiences that support healthy lifestyles, physical development, and positive social interactions.

Social-Emotional Learning

Through guided activities, discussions, and cooperative experiences, students develop important life skills such as communication, empathy, self-awareness, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and teamwork. Our RESPECT values are woven throughout daily programming to foster a positive and inclusive community.

Literacy & Academic Enrichment

Students have opportunities to strengthen literacy skills through reading, storytelling, creative writing, and educational games. Homework support and quiet study opportunities may also be available when appropriate.

Cultural & Community Connections

Students explore diverse cultures, traditions, community helpers, and global perspectives through themed activities, special events, guest speakers, and service-learning opportunities that encourage curiosity and respect for others.

Child Choice & Interest-Based Learning

We recognize that children learn best when they are engaged and invested in their experiences. Students are provided opportunities to make choices, pursue personal interests, and contribute ideas that help shape program activities.

Our enrichment opportunities are designed to provide meaningful, developmentally appropriate experiences that support academic success, social-emotional growth, physical well-being, and lifelong learning. By combining structured activities with opportunities for exploration and choice, Kid Adventures OST creates a safe, supportive environment where every child can discover their strengths, build confidence, and thrive.

Snacks for After-School Program

Healthy snacks are offered daily to Kid Adventures students.  Snacks are provided through Hillsboro-Deering School District Food Service. 

Afternoon Pick-Up Time & Program Participation Policy

To support consistent routines, meaningful participation in enrichment opportunities, and a smooth program operation, Kid Adventures requests that children attending the after-school program remain enrolled until the designated pick-up time of 4:30 PM whenever possible.

Kid Adventures programming is intentionally structured to include enrichment activities that support children’s academic growth, social development, emotional well-being, and peer relationships. Consistent participation allows children to fully engage in activities, build connections with peers and staff, and benefit from the continuity of the program experience.

Frequent early pick-ups may disrupt a child’s participation in activities and impact overall program consistency. Families are encouraged to schedule appointments and other obligations outside of program hours whenever feasible.

Kid Adventures appreciates families’ partnership in maintaining consistent schedules that best support children’s success and engagement within the program.

Afternoon Pick-Up Procedures

Parents/guardians must enter through Door #16 and sign their students out at the designated Sign-Out area. Staff will call students for release to an authorized adult listed in program records. Please allow time for dismissal procedures, as students are released in an organized and supervised manner.

Students are responsible for cleaning up their area and gathering all personal belongings prior to dismissal.

For the safety of all participants and in accordance with applicable child care licensing requirements, students will only be released to authorized individuals after proper sign-out procedures are completed. Students may not be left unattended at any time during arrival or dismissal.
